Community Guidelines
Book Chat Club is built on the idea that readers and writers deserve a thoughtful, respectful space to connect. These guidelines help us keep it that way.
Be kind and respectful
Treat every member the way you'd want to be treated in your favorite bookshop. Disagree with ideas, not people. Literary opinions vary widely — that's what makes discussion interesting.
Keep it safe
Harassment, bullying, threats, hate speech, and personal attacks have no place here. This includes direct messages. If someone asks you to stop contacting them, respect that boundary immediately.
No explicit or harmful content
Pornographic, sexually explicit, excessively violent, or hateful content is not allowed anywhere on the platform — including posts, comments, creative writing, profile images, and messages. Creative writing may explore mature themes, but explicit content is not permitted.
Protect privacy
Never share another member's personal information (real name, location, contact details, photos) without their explicit consent. Respect that many members choose to use pen names or display names for good reasons.
Stay on topic
Book clubs are for literary discussion. Creative groups are for writing. The Community Board is for connecting with other members. Keep your contributions relevant to the space you're posting in. Spam, advertising, and unrelated self-promotion are not allowed.
Use the flag system
If you see something that doesn't belong, flag it. Flagging is anonymous and helps our moderators keep the community safe. Don't take matters into your own hands — let the moderation team handle it.
Be honest
Don't impersonate other people, create fake accounts, or misrepresent yourself. Authenticity builds trust, and trust is the foundation of a good community.
Respect creative work
When sharing feedback on someone's writing, be constructive and encouraging. Don't plagiarize or claim others' work as your own. Give credit where it's due.
Adults only
Book Chat Club is for members who are 18 years of age or older. This is a firm requirement with no exceptions. If we have reason to believe a member is under 18, the account will be removed.
What happens if these guidelines are violated?
Our moderation team reviews all flagged content. Depending on the severity:
- Minor issues — the content may be removed with a friendly reminder
- Repeated violations — your account may be temporarily suspended
- Serious violations — your account may be permanently removed without warning
